Thanks to Howard Hockin in the comments for alerting me to this follow-up story in the MEN about the Council that didn’t buy toilets:
Councillor Davidson said: “The installation of a particular type of toilet at the Rochdale Exchange shopping centre has had nothing whatsoever to do with the council.
…
“The council has not contributed financially to this scheme, which has been privately funded by the centre.”
The statement actually opposes the toilets and was made, says the MEN,
after inaccurate reports appeared in some national newspapers, suggesting they had helped to fund the refurbishment of the toilets.
